Commentary: Is the Evidence for Localization of Nephrin on the Slit Diaphragm Rigid? International Journal of Morphology
Hipkaeo,Wiphawi; Suzuki,Ryoji; Abe,Hiroshi; Chaisiwamongkol,Kowit; Kondo,Hisatake.
After careful observation of immuno-electron microscopic findings of the renal glomerular podocyte slit so far published by various authors, it should be noted that no convincing evidence is present for localization of nephrin-immunoreactivity in the slit itself, but that nephrin-immunoreactivity is dominantly localized along the membranes of podocyte pedicles from their tip over a substantial extension. In addition, the notion that the slit diaphragm is composed of strands is compatible with the widely distributed view that the slit strands represent rod-shaped nephrin molecules. However, 3-D findings that the diaphragm is composed of not only strands but also membranous elements have recently demonstrated separately by embedment-free section electron...

Identification in Immuno-Electron Microscopy of Solitary Multi-Polar Peripheral Neurons of Adult Opisthorchis viverrini by Antibody Against Rat Diacylglycerol Kinaseζ International Journal of Morphology
Hipkaeo,Wiphawi; Techataweewan,Nawaporn; Sakaew,Waraporn; Maleewong,Wanchai; Sripa,Banchob; Chomphoo,Surang; Hozumi,Yasukazu; Goto,Kaoru; Kondo,Hisatake.
By utilizing the antibody for rat DGKz a substantial number of immunopositive cells were found in the OV (Opisthorchis viverrini). The immunopositive cells appeared solitarily and they were distributed rather symmetrically to the longitudinal axis of the OV. Some of them were located in close proximity to internal organs such as uterus, ovary, testes, vitelline glands and guts. The immunostained cells extended tapering processes horizontally or obliquely to the OV longitudinal axis. In immuno-electron microscopy, the immunopositive cells were characterized by intensely immunostained mitochondria and weakly immunostained cytoplasm and immunonegative chromatin-poor nucleus. Vacuoles of various sizes without the immunoreactivity were also contained in the...

Localization of Cannabinoid Receptor 1 (CB1) in Submandibular and Sublingual Salivary Glands of Mice throughout Postnatal Development International Journal of Morphology
Hipkaeo,Wiphawi; Watanabe,Masahiko; Kondo,Hisatake.
In view of the fact that human marijuana users often show dry mouth symptom, the present study was attempted to examine the localization of CB1, which was originally identified in brain, in the submandibular and sublingual salivary glands of postnatal developing male mice by immunohistochemistry. In submandibular gland, CB1-immunoreactivity was positive in a majority of acinar cells in forms of granular appearance in their apical cytoplasm, while it was negative in the ducts at newborn stage. The immunoreactivity decreased in the acinar cells at P1W and no immunoreactivity was detected in the acinar cells at P3W and thereafter. The immunoreactivity was positive in ductal cells at P3W and it remained positive thereafter until P8W stage. The immunoreaction...

Localization of Vesicular Inhibitory Amino Acid Transporter (VIAAT) in the Submandibular Salivary Gland Throughout the Postnatal Development of Mice International Journal of Morphology
Toomsan,Yanyong; Chomphoo,Surang; Pakkarato,Sawetree; Watanabe,Masahiko; Kondo,Hisatake; Hipkaeo,Wiphawi.
According to recent studies, it is highly possible that the occurrence of vesicular inhibitory amino acid transporter (VIAAT) is a good marker of GABA-signaling not only in the brain, but also in extra-brain tissue cells containing GABA and GAD. In view of this, the present study was attempted to localize VIAAT-immunoreactivity in the submandibular gland of mice. In the present study, the submandibular glands of male mice at various postnatal developmental stages were examined for detailed localization of VIAAT-immunoreactivity in immunohistochemistry at light microscopic level. The immunoreactivity for VIAAT was localized in epithelial cells of proximal and distal excretory ducts with the striated portion more intensely immunopositive at young postnatal...

New and Probable Ultrastructural Criteria for Identification of Cytoplasmic Sol Gel States International Journal of Morphology
Hipkaeo,Wiphawi; Kondo,Hisatake.
In embedment-free transmission electron microscopy without employing epoxy embedding media, the cytoplasmic matrix, in which cell organelles and elements including the cytoskeletons are held in place, lattices of strands are clearly and constantly disclosed in every cell. Their compactness is variable in different kinds of cells and in different domains of one and the same cell, and it is changeable under hypo- or hyper-osmolarity. In addition, the appearance of strand-lattices is duplicable in artificial proteins at different sol/gel states and concentrations. All taken together, a new and probable ultrastructural criteria has been proposed for identification of cytoplasmic sol/gel states with a hope that the dynamic properties of the cell is understood...
